Childhood Cancer Awareness and Support

2017

Cemix’s Green Hearts for Blue Ribbons was launched during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month in September 2019. The programme is focused on Prostate Cancer Awareness and Testing, and is aimed at breaking down cost barriers, as well as the stigmas attached to getting a prostate check.

We have partnered with the Barbados Cancer Society and the Cancer Support Services to host pop-up screenings across the island, and are dedicated to covering the costs of the life-saving PSA blood screenings for Barbadian men of all walks of life.

Childhood Cancer Awareness and Support

2017

CEMIX November 1st, 2017 announced a new nationwide initiative to support families and raise awareness about childhood cancer. CEMIX has pledged to support families through its Green Hearts for Gold Ribbons campaign which focuses on Childhood Cancer.

This initiative has been designed to financially support families who have reached out to the Barbados Cancer Society and have been identified as suitable candidates for the programme. CEMIX will support these families allowing them to focus on their children as they go through treatment and concentrate on getting healthy. Under this effort CEMIX has also engaged other members of the corporate community to stimulate philanthropic in-kind donations. One such company is Bryden Stokes who provided the family with non-perishable goods and other personal essentials.

CEMIX’s programmes complement the Barbados Cancer Society’s aim to strengthen families and communities, assist with financial burdens and improve the life chances of everyone they work with.

Childhood Cancer Awareness and Support

2017

In February 2014 CEMIX, in association with the Breast Screening Programme of the Barbados Cancer Society, launched its Green Hearts for Pink Ribbons campaign.
The purpose of this initiative was to focus on:

  • Raising awareness of the importance of regular screenings, and early detection
  • Assist the Breast Screening Programme in its fight to prevent premature deaths from breast cancer by early detection
  • Making these screenings available (for free) to Barbadian men and women across the island.
  • Donating a portion of profits to the Breast Screening Programme to assist in the purchasing and maintenance of necessary equipment.

For every cubic metre of concrete purchased between February 1, 2014 and October 31, 2014 Cemix was proud to make a donation to the Barbados Cancer Society – Breast Screening Programme.
Over 200 women and men took advantage of these free screenings which were held at partnering supermarkets across the island, and a total of $37,600.00 was donated to the Barbados Cancer Society’s Breast Screening Programme.
